John Sellars has established himself as a respected authority on Stoicism through a combination of academic rigor and public engagement.

Academic Positions:

He is a Reader in the History of Philosophy at Royal Holloway, University of London.

​He holds a Visiting Research Fellowship at King’s College London, where he is also an Associate Editor for the Ancient Commentators on Aristotle project.

​He has also been a member of Common Room, at Wolfson College, Oxford.

​Publications:

​He is the author of numerous books and articles on Stoicism and Hellenistic philosophy, contributing to scholarly understanding of these topics. His books include:

​The Pocket Stoic

​Lessons in Stoicism

​The Routledge Handbook of the Stoic Tradition (Routledge Handbooks in Philosophy) 1st Edition

The Art of Living: The Stoics on the Nature and Function of Philosophy

​Hellenistic Philosophy

​He is also a founding member of the UK non-profit, Modern Stoicism.

​Conversations with Modern Stoicism is an interactive virtual gathering that provides an opportunity for Stoics around the world to connect, learn, and engage in meaningful dialogue with each other.

​The events feature a presentation from a respected speaker followed by multiple rounds of audience conversations via the Breakout Rooms feature in Zoom.
