Welcome to Stoic Letters, the blog of the Stoa Nova school for a new Stoicism. This is not going to be your typical blog. The idea is that the faculty of the Stoa Nova will write letters to each other on a variety of topics having to do with the main goal of the school: updating Stoicism for the 21st century.
The spirit of the letters is that of the classic epistles that Seneca and Lucilius exchanged, that is, of Stoics teaching each other while increasing their own understanding of the theory and practice of their chosen philosophy.
Each series of posts will address a particular aspect of the general problem of updating Stoicism, in the spirit outlined by our inspiration, Larry Becker, in his landmark book A New Stoicism. For ease of consultation, the entries in the series will be identifiable by a partially shared title and by an appropriate tag.
The blog is not open to public comments because our experience with that feature in the past has not been, shall we say, constructive. However, the Stoa Nova will from time to time organize live online discussions between some of the faculty and students who have subscribed to the school’s newsletter. Such events will be hosted by our Global Stoa meetup site.
Stay tuned for the first topic of discussion. And remember to live in agreement with nature!
