About our Presentation

What is REBT? What Did it Borrow From Stoicism?

Albert Ellis, the founder of REBT, acknowledged the Stoic philosophers as one of the intellectual influences on his development of what became known as Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy.

REBT is a form of psychotherapy that focuses on helping individuals identify and challenge irrational beliefs and thought patterns that lead to negative emotions and behaviors.

The core premise of REBT is that it is not external events or situations that directly cause emotional disturbance, but rather our own irrational interpretations and beliefs about those events.

Through cognitive restructuring techniques, REBT aims to replace irrational beliefs with more rational and constructive beliefs, thereby reducing emotional distress and promoting healthier behaviors.
